First ever date-rape drug detector

I love that scientists and researcher come up with ideas and products to help people. E.g. anti-retroviral drugs for HIV-positive people, fertility drugs, viagra, condoms, lubricants, etc.

Now there's a date-rape-drug sensor to test whether your drink has been spiked with the two most common date-rape drugs, GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyric acid) and ketamine. It's not confirmed yet exactly how the device will look like and how it will notify the user of the result. They're still figuring out how to make it work discreetly. [Read more]

Of course, it is possible for rapists to switch to other types of date-rape drugs but this is a step forward. We can't stop them all but at least we can stop some of them.

Yu-Kym,

The GHP detector will no doubt be used by smart and savvy young women.

A business women who travels by herself, you for example. Could better protect herself from male predators.

The bigger question is how many young women who frequent clubs or parties would take time to check their drinks.

Commom sense tells young women who possess such sense to never accept a drink from someone they do not know and to never a leave a drink unattended.

The sad truth is common sense is actually uncommon.

To many young women party without knowing the people they party with.

To many males a just creepy predators. Unable to form real caring relations, and to cheap to use prostitutes, such males prey upone unwary young women.
