Eating fast food is seldom a fast decision

13
I resisted the urge to have a MacDonald's hotcakes meal for breakfast this morning. Instead, I opted for 2 half-boiled eggs and a cup of coffee at a hawker centre for $1.80. At MacDonald's I would have had a hotcakes meal which consists of 3 pieces of pancakes, 2 or 3 small tubs of margarine, some syrup, hash brown, and small cup of orange juice or coffee. It wouldn't make sense for me to pay $6 for empty carbs and fats, would it?

Every Saturday, I have an incredible urge to have breakfast at MacDonald's. It's not because my parents made it a habit to have MacDonald's for breakfast but somehow in my mind, my idea of having "fun" on Saturday would mean breakfast at MacDonald's.
Perhaps their marketing and advertising has an effect on me.

What would happen then if my parents had indeed inculcated in me the habit of having MacDonald's breakfast on Saturdays? Wouldn't it be more difficult for me to shake off that habit (or is it an addition)? It's habit rather than genetics is to blame for obesity. If people don't eat the wrong food, there's no way they can grow fat.

Fast food is addictive. Even though MacDonald's food does not taste as good as it used to taste, I still want to eat it. Besides, their food isn't exactly nutritious either. I find myself questioning and rationalizing why I should go to MacDonald's or any fast food restaurant. Although I can afford to pay $6 and I can "afford" to consume the carbs and fats, I still think it's not a good idea to consume fast food. I still eat fast food but not without asking myself at least ten times whether I really need to eat it.

Aiyo we just live once in a lifetime, don't think too hard, once a week of Mc Breakfast is accepatble i think.

Once a week is ok? We only have one body per lifetime! And the food there isn't exactly that nice.

Breakfast or not, not once a week in Mac's in my opinion..once in a while more likely!

Mac is actually an acquired taste..the more often u have it..the easier it grows on your tastebuds. Burger King would be more readily acceptable to my palate. And even than its like twice a month max! Matybe 3! keke

But eat what u like lah Yu-Kym as long as u work it off in regular exercises.

do you think u're fat?

Calories can be worked off but not the fat that clogs up arteries! I wouldn't want to have fast food more than once a month.

I don't think I'm fat and I know I'm not. But I know I tend to look fat in photo.

Gosh! Twice a month having burgers, fries and pepsi and you are afraid of clogging up your arteries with fat? Might as well not live life! lol

Part of the joys of life is eating in a balanced way, including fast foods that u like. As long as u faithfully work out with regular sensible beneficial exercises, etc the rest you leave it to how soon someone wants u to be with him in heaven. lol

Some ppl eat bland and proper and still die from whatever causes. Some exercise to the max and still die suddenly. What does that tell us? One cannot have absolute control over our destiny. So enjoy your fast food more than once a month if u like and dont be too overly concerned about clogged arteries

Wise choice, YK.

It's not just the calories and/or fat and/or nutrition, but the Trans Fat that is causing real damage to your body.

curious cat, have you seen shortening that's used for making pastries, biscuits and other food items? It's like a rock. You really don't want it in your arteries. As Uncle Wee mentioned, it's the Trans Fat not just the calories.

So since we are going to grow old let's just eat, drink and be merry? Since your car is going to get old, don't bother to oil and maintain it? Your clothes are going to get dirty so don't bother to change them?

I don't believe in heaven. Even if there's a heaven, it won't be fair to admit those who failed to take care of the "temple of God", i.e. your own body.

Yes I have seen it used for baking and its a "rock" for the arteries. And I have also met ppl whose thinking are like "blocks of rock" too! lol

Like..."since we are going to grow old, let's just eat and drink and be merry"? etc etc"

I know you dont seriously mean we actually do it (although i suspect some do)... but its nevertheless a disappointment when you resort to this form of fanatical illustration to back up your views. I'm surprised it came from you but perhaps u have been unwell keke Im granting u an escape clause lol

Please do read my comments a little more carefully. I have said nothing bothering on such extremes.

Uncle Wee can have his opinions with regard to the evils of eating fast foods even if its just a twice a month treat. He eats his own way and I wish him well.

But who are we to conclude so confidently that those who eat fast foods (and therefore by your argument de facto or automatically dont take care of their "temples of God").... dont deserve to be admitted to heaven? And Uncle Wee and the likes of him (who avoid trans fat and are "supposedly" taking care of their "temples")... the only ones deserving?

As for admittance to a plc in heaven (whether one believes or not... and I particularly dont really believe in such a paradise myself but i wont dismiss it altogether either... I still have a little hope lol) We all must have some hope in everything in life.

I didn't say I don't eat Mac's at all. I only said that it's not something that I would happily eat weekly. You can read my food log on twitter: http://twitter.com/yukymblog
I do not torture myself by eating only either stuff and I do not abuse my body by stuffing myself with junk.

The Bible said that people must take care of the "temple of God". It's a sin not to do so. I don't believe in the Christian God or the Bible but I think the advice/command to take care of our bodies is a good one.

If anyone wants a recipe for heart disease, neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, eye disorders, brain damage, then go dine in fast food outlets. McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut and most of the fast food outlets have tons of MSG, trans fat and sugar content. Why pay for eating trans fat, fructose(poison) and excitotoxin? Cancer is no.1 cause of death in Singapore. BTW, i've just uploaded information about excitotoxin (MSG) in my blog earlier. Feel free to spend some time to read. Healthy eating folks.
